Jiemin Yang Presents Work-in-Progress of In the Noodle and Excerpts from Portraits of the Moon at the Emerging Choreographers Series Showcase

Queens, NY – Choreographer and dance artist Jiemin Yang is set to present work-in-progress excerpts from his latest choreographic works, In the Noodle and Portraits of the Moon, as part of Mare Nostrum Elements’ Emerging Choreographers Series (ECS) Showcase. The performances will take place at the Mainstage Theater at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, offering audiences a deeply personal exploration of identity, cultural heritage, and human connection through movement, sound, and multimedia elements. Jiemin will share split bills with fellow choreographer Susanne McHugh and Caroline Brethenoux.

About Jiemin Yang
Jiemin (he/him) holds a MA in Contemporary Dance from the London Contemporary Dance School and a BS from Macaulay Honors College. Jiemin's work has been recognized with the Redtail Artist Residencies ’23 at Jamaica Center for the Arts & Learning and multiple grants from the Queens Council on the Arts, Flushing Town Hall, and New York Foundation for the Arts. His short dance film Wo/我 has won awards from the DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon ’22 and the Queens World Film Festival ’22. Jiemin was honored as Artist of Exceptional Merit ’22 by the Asian American Arts Alliance and has been a resident artist of the CUNY Dance Initiative at Queens College/Kupferberg Center for the Arts from 2021-2022. Jiemin has presented his works at prestigious venues and events, including Gibney Dance Center, the Battery Dance Festival (2023), the AAPI Dance Festival at APAP (2024) with Nai-Ni Chen Dance at the Ailey Citigroup Theater, the Museum of Chinese in America, Flushing Town Hall, and Green Space, among others.

About the Emerging Choreographers Series (ECS)

For over a decade, the ECS program—conceived and administered by Mare Nostrum Elements—has nurtured over 70 NYC-based choreographers, providing them with resources to develop new works. This year, ECS continues its mission by guiding five alumni through self-producing 30-40 minute split-bill performances at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center and Flushing Town Hall.
