ABOUT THE WORK

9th Rib: Re-Purposed is a new dance-theater project presented by danceTactics performance group, and choreographed by Keith A. Thompson. Inspired by interviews and community-engagement activities with residents in rural Montana organized in collaboration with creative producer Tamara Pullman in August 2015, 9th Rib: Re-Purposed aims to explore the links between our identity and our narratives of rural/urban place. The performance features original music by Maesa Pullman.

all i have are sensations is a duet by E/D. Calling upon their training in Butoh and other contemporary forms of dance theater, the company works with sound, light, and sensation as materials. E/D’s performance practice researches the limitations of these materials and where they inter- (and even intra-) penetrate. Where are sensations felt, how do they blur, and when do they integrate to become synesthetic? Contributing artists include designer Ntilit and new music composer Jascha Narveson.

Amanda Hameline Dance presents To make a gross but understandable comparison, exploring the extreme reactions that can result from a need to find stability and order during periods of choice or change. Six women converse and argue, convulse and freeze, feeding off of each other’s hysteria. The search for control and organization backfires as rational plans fail and emotions dominate. We are left with one of the world’s worst fears – the senseless, deranged, irrational woman. “I imagine everyone is more or less familiar with the bizarre characteristics of nervous women…. What is referred to as female nerves is simply hysteria.” - Dr. Charles Richet – French physiologist, Nobel Prize winner, and closet novelist – writing in 1880 after observing hysterical patients at the Salpêtrière hospital in Paris.

Renee Gerardo/Dances presents mid-land, a multi-media dance work that takes on the idea of “home”, the feelings of having a place and what it means to feel out of place. It involves personal and biographical themes that include collective memory, self-identification, and relationships.
