Sunday Process Lab with Elena Demyanenko & Eva Karczag
Company: Movement Research
Venue: Movement Research at Eden's Expressway
Location: New York, NY
Embodiment and Form, a Collaborative Inquiry
A co-led inquiry exploring the essence of making through collaboration. The lab format will create a field for sharing, where participants can bring questions and air perspectives. Discussion can unfold out of an engagement with sensation and kinesthetic listening, and through the observation of image and form as it emerges. We will research strategies to create a working environment that nourishes and charges us with energy. Can we collaborate and challenge each other through expressions of harmony, collision, overlap or confrontation as mutual support?
Elena Demyanenko and Eva Karczag have both danced with the Trisha Brown Dance Company. They both experienced the rigor of classical ballet training that they both chose to shed in favor of more respectful and creative approaches to moving and making. They both chose to locate themselves in the stimulating atmosphere of NY's experimental dance world after leaving their home countries. At the same, time they continue to position themselves in constant conversation with European art communities through their travels, performances and teaching in Europe. They have watched and have delighted in each other’s dancing, exchanged conversations and observations about the sensibility of making, but have never worked with each other until this moment.
