The Knocking Within at FringeNYC

The Knocking Within at FringeNYC
Inspired by research into the neuroscience of sleep and the anthropology of dreams, The Knocking Within weaves a portrait of two lovers and the nightmares that plague them, unveiling their insecurities, their fears and the violence that lies just beneath the surface. A one-hour dance-theater work with movement vocabulary drawn from Capoeira, Kalaripayattu, Bharata Natyam, West African dance, and a wide range of Contemporary dance forms, The Knocking Within calls into question the lines we draw between art forms, between cultures, even between methodologies. These lines are constructs that we inject at points along the continuum of human movement. This work combines a dizzying array of movement vocabulary, woven together into a new language of the body. With text in English, Hindi and American Sign Language, The Knocking Within draws on Shakespeare's tragedies to effect a re-staging of theater, taking it decidedly into the realm of visual communication. www.anikai.org
