The Underscore is a dance improvisation structure developed by Nancy Stark Smith. Based in Contact Improvisation, it comprises a spectrum of states, from quiet, internal activity to high-energy, interactive dancing. Undirected; for research and play. Open to all familiar with CI. Deepen your practice with a "talk-through". Underscore NYC offers “talk-throughs” to introduce Underscore's 50+ glyphs and concepts. Important Note: Stay from start to finish.

Facilitated by Lucy Mahler, with guest facilitators.

Lucy Mahler, BFA, LMT, has been practicing and teaching Contact Improvisation (CI), Authentic Movement (AM) and Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT) in NYC, the US, and abroad since the late seventies; they are at the heart of her life as a dancer and artist. She is a certified AM and SRT teacher, licensed massage therapist, as well as an internationally renowned muralist. Most recently, this past year, she has taught in Ecuador's 1st International Contact Festival, and has collaborated and performed -Texture Duet, with Bradley Teal Elis at the Rotunda Gallery in NYC - and a group CI piece with Kiori Kawai and her light Installation at the Maritime Museum in Kingston, NY. Currently she is helping to organize the first Encuento/Festival de CI in Havana, "CONTACT CUBA" April 2018.
