Bessie Awards announce host and presenters for ceremony on October 18 at Symphony Space (Broadway at 95th)

 
Isaac Mizrahi, acclaimed costume designer for Mark Morris and Twyla Tharp---among other accomplishments!---will host the 2010 Bessie Awards. The lineup of presenters includes HT Chen (of the Chen Dance Center), Ishmael Houston-Jones (choreographer, writer, teacher), Virginia Johnson (of Dance Theater of Harlem), Yvonne Rainer (choreographer, filmmaker, author), Tina Ramirez (of Ballet Hispanico), Gus Solomons, Jr. (of Paradigm company), Jock Soto (of NYCB), Elizabeth Streb (of Streb Extreme Action), and Jennifer Tipton (lighting designer extraordinaire). Our aim was to ask a number of dance leaders and legends from many parts of New York's dance landscape to be part of the awards this year. We are honored to have each and every one of these extraordinary artists participating on the night. We'll be honoring the creative teams behind six outstanding dance works from each of the past two seasons as well as six outstanding performers. We will also be speaking about our vision for the awards goind forward and asking for your input and engagement. Hope to see you there!
The ceremony will be held on Monday October 18th at 8 pm at Symphony Space (Broadway at 95th St). Tickets are free and can be obtained at the Symphony Space web site www.symphonyspace.org for a service fee of $5.75, or by phone 212-864-5400 for a fee of $2.75, or at the box office for no service fee.
