Advocacy Alert: Replenishing the CARES Act
The President has signed a bill to replenish the CARES Act, providing increased support to the Paycheck Protection Program, the Emergency Economic Injury Disaster Loans, in addition to support to hospitals and coronavirus testing. Read the full text of H.R. 266, the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act.
Dance/NYC, in partnership with Dance/USA, would like you to know the following key points:
•$310 billion for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) with $60 billion set aside for small banks to distribute.
•$60 billion for Emergency Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) with $10 billion set aside for advances of up to $10,000 to companies and nonprofits with fewer than 500 employees, and to self-employed gig workers.
Submit your applications quickly if you have not yet applied for the Paycheck Protection Program. You will need to work with lenders in your area immediately and funds are being disbursed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Applying for Unemployment
More than 35 states are now set up to receive unemployment applications from artists and other self-employed workers. As many of you have experienced, the process is frustrating, slow, and confusing. However, we have also heard that the states are working to improve their systems. So please be persistent in your efforts to apply for unemployment – your applying matters! Our colleagues at the Cerf+, a support organization for craft artists, said it best, “self-employed workers, including artists, have not always been included in these types of aid packages so we need to let our government know that artists need this assistance and that you are an important part of the U.S. workforce.”
