Dancing In The Streets Summer Intern

 

DANCING IN THE STREETS—a 27-year producer of free, adventurous & high quality public dance programs with community engagement—offers summer internships that provide college credit and professional training in production and rehearsal management.  Selected interns will work closely with world renown choreographers, assume key production responsibilities, and learn to master the unique challenges of developing and producing work in public urban spaces.  

DANCING IN THE STREETS’ SUMMER SEASON: 7/5-8/15: Hip Hop Generation Next: From the South Bronx to East Asia

A multifaceted series, including:

Hip Hop/Kung Fu – Bronx & Manhattan venues: an original dance work by Emilio “Buddha Stretch” Austin Jr, Adesola Osakalumi, and Michele Byrd McPhee. The work will be performed by the choreographers and dancers from South Korea, Taiwan, and JapanBlock Party – South Bronx: ciphers (freestyle dance); a graffiti arts project; and performances by Illstyle & Peace Productions, the Hip Hop/Kung Fu ensemble, and youth and community membersArtWorks – South Bronx: a teen arts and career training program

INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: Intern will assume one or more of the following responsibilities:Production: plan and implement pre-production, production, and post production Stage Management: coordinate and cue performers and tech crews for tech and dress rehearsals and run of the showChoreograhers’ Assistant: assist choreographers & schedule and coordinate rehearsalsStage Management: coordinate and cue performers and tech crewsVolunteer Coordinator: recruit and train volunteer ushers and “Street Team”

TERMS OF INTERNSHIP:June – August, 2011 (start and end date are flexible)10-20 hours/weekCollege credit with intern’s academic institution Unpaid (possibility of stipend for metrocard)

QUALIFICATIONS:Strong organizational, time management, and communication skillsReliable self-starter who also works collaboratively with colleaguesAbility to multitask and work effectively under deadlineA minimum of 6 months experience and skills in at least one of the areas of responsibilityRelevant computer skills A passion and enthusiasm for the performing arts
