AUDITION - People Watch Project

SilCo Dance’s The People Watch Project

CALL FOR DANCERS - Audition

SilCo is in search of four dance/movement artists to take part in a 10-week improvisational-based movement workshop focused on developing SilCo’s The People Watch Project (PWP).

The 10 weeks will consist of six two-hour sessions in the rehearsal studio and four two-hour sessions of public space performances. Six participants will work as an intimate cohort in developing a movement language rooted in improvisational dance. We will work specifically with the concept of sensation of movement as opposed to form and technique. Through a variety of exercises in contact and individual exploration we will gain a clearer understanding of how our movement affects ourselves, and those within the space surrounding. Using this information we will explore how this translates to a public audience. How do we approach, engage, and interact? The information gathered in the studio sessions will work as our tool to take PWP to the street and put our discoveries into action with a public audience.

PWP was started by SilCo in 2010 and is an ongoing informal dance experience that takes form in public spaces. The intention behind PWP is to draw people out of their everyday activity and invite them into the world of dance, offering a moment of play and spontaneity. The challenge: How can we make dance more accessible to those who are not already a part of the dance community? PWP brings dance to the people in an effort to expose them to something they would otherwise not see.
