CHOP SHOP Contemporary Dance Festival: Call for Choreographers/Dance Companies

Announcing a call for choreographers/dance companies with contemporary work to be presented at CHOP SHOP:  Bodies of Work, an annual dance festival presenting extraordinary contemporary dance from the Pacific Northwest and beyond, alongside master classes and a free community outreach program.

About the Festival

CHOP SHOP’s mission is to offer insight on contemporary dance and its creative process, in order to forge deeper connections between artists and audiences through presentation, education, dialogue, and experience.  The festival is committed to promoting work that is accessible to a diverse audience, comprised of both new and experienced dance viewers, and educating the community-at-large through free outreach classes offered through our innovative Experience Dance Program.

Now in its ninth year, this highly anticipated event continues with sold out performances and outstanding critical acclaim on both a local and national level.  Past participants include Spectrum Dance Theatre, Northwest Dance Project, Joshua Beamish, Whim W’Him, Alex Ketley/The Foundry, Adam Barruch Dance, Zoe Scofield, Grand Rapids Ballet, and Mark Haim.

Information for Artists

Work presented will not exceed 10 minutes in length.  Samples of “works in progress” are accepted, but should show at least 75% of the completed piece.  Works still in conceptual form will not be considered.  A modest performance and master class stipend is paid.  While we encourage applications from beyond the Pacific Northwest, please be advised that the festival’s limited budget does not allow us to assist with travel, transportation, and/or accommodation costs.

Chosen work will be presented in both performances (Saturday evening and Sunday matinee).  Additionally, artists have the opportunity to offer a master class and participate in a lecture/demonstration on the art of choreography during the daytime hours of the festival.
