Latin Dance teaching artist

 

Pier55, a non-profit park and arts organization located in Hudson River Park and slated to open in May, 2021, is seeking two experienced teaching artists to join the team, with a concentration in creative aging and Latin dance. These positions will work on a project to project basis, developing and implementing arts education and cultural programs that support the vision of Pier55, in partnership with local community-based organizations. The successful candidate is a professional with significant experience as a teaching artist. S/he/They should also have demonstrated success in designing and facilitating professionally conducted arts and cultural workshops that address how the arts can help people reach their full potential at all stages of life.

 

Key Responsibilities

In conjunction with the Engagement and Education Department, develop and teach workshops for older adults

Ensure that all lessons align with adult learning principles

Facilitate creative aging workshops

Lead creative aging workshops at local community-based organizations

Guide learners through an authentic process of investigation, reflection, dialogue, and creative action

Help adult learners engage with and create various forms of public art

Help adult learners expand their conceptual, physical, and verbal artistic vocabulary

Participate in team meetings, orientations, and trainings, as required

Create a fun, safe and supportive environment for teaching and learning

Participate in the ongoing evaluation and success of these programs

 

Qualifications

4-5 years of experience working professionally in an artistic discipline

4-5 years of experience working with constituents of community based organizations

Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Understanding of best practices for working with students with emotional, cognitive and physical disabilities

Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

Dynamic and resourceful with a passion for Pier55’s commitment to providing access for all

 

Compensation

$150 per hour for teaching; $75 per hour for planning

Contribution into a 401(k) retirement plan
