The Dance New Jersey Annual Festival 2023 returns for the first time in-person since 2020! This yearly event brings together dance professionals statewide who are dance educators, teaching artists, dancers, choreographers, studio owners, and more, for a day of connecting and learning through workshops led by NJ dance professionals and Master Classes from popular artists impacting the field.

Dance New Jersey invites members to submit proposals centered on this year’s festival theme “Connecting with Communities”. As we reflect on the last few years, coming together in-person for dance-centered activities has new significance and meaning. We invite proposals from dance professionals on how they have connected meaningfully with their community, and to share this by both speaking on a panel and leading a movement workshop or group activity.
These perspectives, ideas, tools, and/or approaches to community can be from an array of settings - included but not limited to classrooms, schools, studios, organizations, institutions, and local neighborhoods. Through these conversations and activities, we hope that participants leave sparked and energized by the shared experience and new perspectives.

Workshop Format
Workshop leaders will speak about their approach to “Connecting with Communities” for up to 15 minutes as part of a panel to all participants at the festival with time for questions, followed by a movement class or group activity with a portion of participants for 1 hr 10 minutes. The movement-based offering should reflect the workshop leaders’ approach to community, and include learning, sharing, and/or exploring new tools for community building and connecting in classroom, studio, and/or other dance-centered spaces.

Deadline to Submit: October 24th
Decisions Made By: November 14th
