Dance Project of Washington Heights (DPWH) is a vibrant community dedicated to dance education and the arts. Serving over 400 students from diverse backgrounds, we are committed to removing barriers to dance education and building community through the transformative power of dance. Our "Pay-What-You-Can" approach ensures that every child can experience the joy of dance, regardless of their socio-economic status.
Position Overview:
We are seeking enthusiastic and creative Winter Camp Counselors to lead engaging activities for our dance students during our 2025 winter camp Feb 17-21 and Feb 24-28. Each day, campers will participate in a variety of arts, crafts, and movement-based activities related to dance and the specific curriculum for the week. Themes may include: Hula, African Dance, Cuban Rumba, Nutrition, History of African American Dance, and Mental Health.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and facilitate daily arts and crafts activities that align with the week’s dance themes.
- Supervise and engage with students to ensure a fun, inclusive, and safe camp experience.
- Assist dance instructors in creating a positive learning environment.
- Encourage creativity and self-expression through various artistic and craft projects.
- Foster a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for all students.
- Communicate with parents, staff, and fellow counselors effectively.
Qualifications:
- Passion for working with children and background in dance, arts, or education a plus
- Experience in leading arts and crafts activities a plus.
- Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt and problem-solve in a fast-paced camp setting.
- CPR certification (or willingness to obtain before camp start date) is a plus.
- Prior camp counseling, teaching, or childcare experience preferred.
