Important Update on Immigrants. Dance. Arts. Conference

Immigrants. Dance. Arts. in English, Spanish, and Chinese

Greetings from Dance/NYC!

Due to a major conflicting event in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, we have changed the date and venue of our Immigrants. Dance. Arts. Conference to Thursday, November 8, 2018 at The Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College, 65-30 Kissena Blvd., Flushing, NY 11367.

The conference was originally scheduled for September 21, 2018, at Queens Theatre, which we later learned would be on the same weekend as a Paul Simon concert in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Set-up for the concert would likely have created accessibility concerns regarding transportation and navigation, and may have required barricades and a heavy police presence. In alignment with our values of justice, equity, and inclusion, Dance/NYC and our event partners concluded that this would have been antithetical to our intention to create a safe, welcoming, and accessible space for immigrant attendees, documented and undocumented, and their supporters. We remain grateful to Queens Theatre for their support, and we are pleased to announce that they will be partnering with Dance/NYC in a new capacity by curating pop-up performances for the conference.

Queens College has offered to host the conference and is thrilled to be able to support Dance/NYC in this work. The City University of New York (CUNY)’s Board of Trustees reaffirms its long-standing commitment to welcoming, protecting and supporting their students, faculty and staff who are foreign nationals, immigrants or refugees and will take any steps available under the law to protect and support their undocumented students. Queens College extends these principles to the attendees, speakers, and volunteers of Dance/NYC’s Immigrants. Dance. Arts. Conference.

To register for this free, day-long series of convening presented in partnership with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs and The Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College on Thursday, November 8, please visit Dance.NYC/IDAC.

The convening is a part of Dance/NYC’s Immigrants. Dance. Arts. Initiative. Please join the Immigrants. Dance. Arts. Network to receive information on immigrant dance activity in the New York City metropolitan area. If you have any questions, please write immigrantartists@dance.nyc.

We thank you for your continued support and for helping us to create a dance ecology that fosters the inclusion, integration, and human rights of immigrant New Yorkers.

All best,
