House of the Roses Volunteer Dance Company seeks new members!

Do you love dance and also love working with children? Do you have a few hours each week to dedicate to a worthwhile volunteer program that combines the love of dance with children? House of the Roses Volunteer Dance Company, Inc. (“HOTR”) is a volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization that offers homeless and at-risk children free weekly on-site dance workshops at partner outreach facilities, such as homeless shelters and community centers, throughout New York City, as well as performance opportunities at outside locations. The program provides constructive, disciplined and fun activities for these children and shows them that they merit the time, energy and interest of others. The dance workshops are meant to foster freedom of expression, healthy role modeling, self-esteem, and respect for others. Through these workshops, the children work together to prepare for a variety of performances that celebrate their success and growth throughout the year. These performances give the children the opportunity to be recognized for their creativity and talent rather than their life circumstances.

The workshops are conducted by members of the organization’s volunteer dance company, which comprises dancers from a variety of backgrounds who share a common commitment to donating their time and talent to working with children. The dance company also performs, on its own and with the children, a repertoire that inspires creativity and caring. Ideally, our new volunteers would dance with us throughout the school year, and we all participate in the big finale celebration show in June.
