Gallery Administrator Internship

 

Appleby Fdn offers rare opportunity to develop solid curatorial, and gallery directorial skills.   The position is unpaid.

The 6-8 week summer project is located in a quaint rural village in the gorgeous Adirondack Mountain region (5.5 hrs north of NYC).  Flexible start and finish time, but recommended June-25-August August 6.  Close to magnificent outdoor recreation opportunities such as hiking, swimming, fishing, biking, etc.

Appleby's economic development project is the Tahawus Lodge Center (TLC), the creation a new hub for cultural activities, and spurring Main Street revitalization. 

Candidate must possess strong writing skills for press releases, reports,  people skills for coordination of events and volunteers, sponsors, familiarity with range of dance activities (modern, ballet, rehearsal needs, class needs, yoga, pilates) and interest/ experience in visual art areas: photography, painting.  Candidate will work both alone and in collaboration with others, should be independent and inventive. 

The new Windows of Change Gallery opened in January 2011.  RKB seeks an enterprising individual to manage, oversee,  the summer activities in the building, even as parts of  the building it are still very much under renovation.   Duties include assisting, coordinating with a number of Gallery exhibits, opening, community outreach, helping to coordinate special events, and a variety of jobs.

Must have a car and a computer.  Work related travel will be reimbursed.  Free housing will be provided.  Work hours are fairly flexible and deadline or project driven.  Plenty of free time to explore the scenic surroundings of Lake Placid, Lake Champlain, etc.
