Donte Beacham
Dancing has been in my blood since I can remember. It started off with Hip-Hop dancing for my high school when I began to notice my skill. After doing that for 4 years, I was introduced to the world of JSetting, but by women. JSette historically refers to Jackson State’s HBCU female drill team that began many years ago. They “created” the dance style, and thus far have made it a distinctive form of dance. I was interested in this type of dance, but not entirely until I saw a group of males performing it. At that point I claimed the style and sought to perfect it on my body. Now I have my own JSette line called Mystic Force, and planning to increase our renown in this style of dance in our community, and eventually internationally. Vogue hit America’s Best Dance Crew; I plan to make JSette the next and newest popular culture recruit.
Here are a few of the competitions in which I have competed with my line:
·       Jackson Talent Contest-2007
·       Jackson Capital City Competition-2007
·       Memphis Pride-2008
·       Atlanta Pride 2008
·       Tennessee Classics-2009

Shannon Murphy and Jumatatu Poe

Shannon Murphy loves to move more than anything!  After graduating Suma Cum-Laude with a BA in Dance from Point Park University (Pittsburg, PA), Murphy began her exploration into the somatic and movement healing arts.  She uses the Franklin Method in both her pedagogy and choreography.  Shannon continues on her journey to experience as much movement as possible, developing her own kinetic vocabulary.  Her choreographic work displays physical exertion, emotional intrigue, and a curiosity of functionality both physically and metaphorically.  Her work has been presented at The Goose Route Dance Festival, InFlux, Spiel Uhr, and the New Edge Mix 2010.  She has also choreographed many musicals most recently Bat Boy (Villanova Theatre), The Good Times are Killing Me, and Urinetown, The Musical(Bruce Montgomery Theatre).  A stunning performer, Murphy works with many dance artists/companies including: Anonymous Bodies/Kate Watson-Wallace, Dance Theater X, idiosynCrazy productions, Kosoko Performance Group, Nichole Canuso Dance Company, SCRAP Performance Group, XCDC, Robert Battle, Wally Cardona, Rennie Harris, Jennifer Morley, and Kathryn TeBordo.  Last season, Murphy proudly became the Director of Creative Development for idiosynCrazy productions, where she fuses her passion of performance, choreography and movement theory.

Jumatatu Poe - I am originally from California, though now I have spent half my life in Philadelphia, PA. I graduated from Swarthmore College with a BA in English Literature and Black Studies, and Temple University with an MFA in Dance. I have also trained at Philadanco, in the Jacob's Pillow and Illadelph Legends Festivals, in Amsterdam with Anouk van Dijk, and in New York with Irene Dowd. Currently, I serve on faculty at Swarthmore College and the University of the Arts. I have performed for several Philadelphian choreographers, including Charles Anderson, Myra Bazell, Marianela Boan, Tania Isaac, Kun-Yang Lin, Merián Soto, Leah Stein, Keith Thompson, Kate Watson-Wallace, and Kariamu Welsh (as a member of Kariamu & Company: Traditions). My work has been supported by the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through Dance Advance, Philadelphia Live Arts Festival, Susan Hess Modern Dance Choreographers’ Project, and the Community Education Center. In 2008, I founded idiosynCrazy productions.
