Call for Choreographers

The Pearl is a new mixed media dance concert series, giving choreographers and artists the opportunity to present new work.

The Pearl is comprised of two halves. The first half showcases new dance works by choreographers of all dance genres. The second presents collaborative works between dance artists and artists of other mediums, highlighting a rotating musical guest at the end of the program accompanied by Brooklyn Colored Girls Dance Team (BCGDT).

This quarterly series is designed to bring concert dance to viewers from the most avid to first time theater goers. The Pearl takes a youthful approach--luring New York City audiences by incorporating local talent and a DJ.

The Pearl producers designate seven slots for choreographers at all stages of their career and of all genres. Each choreographer is allotted seven minutes total to present their work and on the day of the show given two cues (lights up and down) with one color choice.

The Pearl is presented on a quarterly basis at the new Schermerhorn Theater in downtown Brooklyn. The Schermerhorn Theater is a state of the art theater, equipped with wooden floors, marley, theatrical lighting, green room, projector and sound system.

Pearl dates: September 11, 2011, December 2011 (exact date tba), March 2012 (exact date tba), June 2012 (exact date tba) – all performances begin at 8pm except for the September 11 show which begins at 7pm
