In-School Residency Programs Teaching Artist

 
Position Summary: NJPAC In-School Residency Teaching Artists teach theater and dance in various school environments across the state of New Jersey under the auspices of NJPAC’s In-School Residency Programs. The residencies are designed to introduce Pre-K through 12th graders to the performing arts, develop their individual skills, and provide experiences that engage the artist in every child. NJPAC IN-School Residencies focus on a singular area of study.  
 
THEATER: Acting Technique, Devised Theater, Musical Theater, Performance Poetry, Creative Storytelling, or Social Impact Performance.
 
DANCE: Tap, Modern, West African Dance, Hip Hop, Creative Movement, Ballroom, or Social Impact Performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
ï‚· Conduct performing arts lessons (typically one hour in length) that are developmentally appropriate
ï‚· Create a residency outline and lesson plans (10 to 20, depending on length of residency) that embody the goals of NJPAC’s program(s) and meet the needs of the school
ï‚· Share lessons with NJPAC staff, classroom teachers, and school administration.
ï‚· Prepare and conduct a culminating presentation at the school which includes the students as content creators as well as performers
ï‚· Communicate with NJPAC and school staff regarding all aspects of the residency
ï‚· Participate in meetings and trainings at NJPAC
ï‚· Travel to and work in all types of schools across New Jersey
 
Qualifications and Special Requirements: 
ï‚· Bachelor’s degree in the arts or arts-related field
ï‚· Professional experience in a performing art form
ï‚· Teaching experience in school environment
ï‚· Strong oral and written communication skills in order to interact with students, classroom teachers and administrators
ï‚· Must be willing to travel to and teach in various school settings in New Jersey
ï‚· Must be willing to attend meetings and complete paperwork in addition to teaching classes
