WHITE WAVE is seeking Volunteers for 2011 DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL + WAVE RISING SERIES

 
Organization’s Mission, a brief History:

WHITE WAVE is a non-profit arts organization established in 1988. WHITE WAVE’s mission is to be a potent stimulus for change and expansion of the dance/arts world through the creation of new dance works, production of dance concerts, and education and outreach through dance classes. WHITE WAVE accomplishes its mission by providing opportunities for dancers and choreographers to create, rehearse, perform their art and network with each other, and by engaging the local dance community in an ongoing arts dialogue, carrying dance and art forward through sharing and collaboration.

Activities
Assist WHITE WAVE staff in the production of the 2011 DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL(Sept. 22rd -25th ) + WAVE RISING SERIES (Oct. 19th -Nov. 6th) and general WHITE WAVE operations, including:
Ø Aid in the mailing of press releases.
Ø Aid in the development and distribution of supplementary marketing materials (posters, programs, postcards)
Ø Contact follow ups with program participants
Ø Assist the technical staff during the tech rehearsal and the production staff during the festival
Ø Intern and Volunteer activities also include data entry, web-based research, and other general office activities.

WHITE WAVE is looking for people who, first and foremost, are interested in the dance community of New York City. Must have a courteous demeanor, as they will need to work well with staff, artists, and the general public. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-savvy are a plus.

2011 DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL: A 3-day dance extravaganza! Dance appears everywhere in DUMBO!  Presenting 113 companies with over 400 performing artists from throughout the United States, Canada and Japan.  This year’s festival features the freshest & most original dancemakers.  Audiences will be able to enjoy up to 8 different companies every hour!

2011 WAVE RISING SERIES features 24 dancemakers from across the USA, Europe, & Asia in this acclaimed 3 week festival. The SERIES offers rising choreographers the opportunity to present work in depth – often for the first time – alongside world-renowned companies.  Each week commences with a day of Master Class Workshops taught by that week’s participating Festival artists. “Tickets are cheap and dancing plentiful, it’s a good mix.” – NY Times
