Seeking professional contemporary dancers for Pocket Opera of New York’s production of Rameau’s Platee. March 15-18, 2012, choreographed by Abigail Levine. All performances will take place at Atlantic Stage 2, in Chelsea.
We are looking for dancers who are interested in and comfortable improvising, as well as performing set material, generating movement phrases, working with live music and singers and, generally, able to fill a stage with wild and weird dancing.
Synopsis: In Platee the God Jupiter has decided to amuse himself at the expense of a mortal, who happens to be a frog. Believing that he is on love with her Platee, sprials into insanity. The opera follows the chaos that leads to their impending doomed nuptials. The ballet plays a large, integral role in creating and telling the story. The music is the height of French Baroque frivolity with interludes that are often comedic and frequently stunning.
Rehearsals will begin in mid-January and will be held weekday evenings and/ or weekends in Manhattan. There will be an honorarium for performances. If interested, please send an introduction, including any relevant experience, and a resume to the email address below. We will contact dancers about attending a rehearsal.
