Choreographer Call for the 2012 :pushing progress Showcase Series

:pushing progress is proud to present the 2012 Showcase Series!

Over the past five years, :pushing progress has provided integrated dance education through performances, annual intensives, instudio workshops, one day workshops and the growing Contemporary Training Program. To compliment these educationalprograms, the Showcase Series celebrates artists in the metropolitan dance community and helps foster the work of the many talented artists both established and up-and-coming. By sharing the unique work of an eclectic group of artists, these performances celebrate raw creation and diversity in dance, and provide choreographers with a venue to share new movement and ideas at various stages of the process.

Pastperformances included choreographers such as Mark Stuart Dance Theater, Slam, Jason Parsons, BODYART, Lauren Adams,Dana Foglia, Next Stage Dance Project, Heather Gehring, Cirque-tacular, Synthesis Dance Project, Loni Landon and :pushing progressdirectors Calen Kurka, Chris Hale and Maya Escueta. Artists are picked both by invitation and through application submissions.

Evolving from past showcases, the 2012 Showcase Series aims to encompass :pushing progress’s overall vision by uniting dance education with performance in one singular event. The showcase event willjoin works presented by talented artists and choreographers with a week of instruction and education through evening workshop classes offered by donation the week leading up to the show. This year, :pushing progress is also reaching out to young talent through inviting student choreographers to apply to show their work alongside some of New York’s most talented emerging professional artists. By providing a collaborative event that gives the many talented teachers and choreographers in the New York dance community with a cohesive venue to share their knowledge and art form, this year’s Showcase Series hopes to make both dance education and performance widely accessible to the New York community at large.
