Artist In Residency

We are seeking to support creatives who look at the world as nobody else would: Performers, dancers, circus artists, writers, poets, vocalists, mimes, artists and adventurers of all kinds. If you adore subverting the status quo, deconstructing the accepted common perceptions and refining them to rebuild all over again, you are exactly who we wish to support.

Our Artist in Residency program is designed to provide emerging and established artists with rehearsal/creative space for up to 12 months to create premiere performance works or exhibits which can culminate in a work - in- progress or fully finished performance presentation.

Our gallery is a clean 1600sq ft open lofted space with 23.5ft ceilings which conveniently transforms into performance space for virtually any style of artistic presentation. AIR’s work in an environment which is catered to their creative and professional needs which encourages quality results.

HMC seeks to not only support the growth of seminal works, but to give artists the awareness and the knowledge in such areas of audience relations, budgeting, proposal and grant preparation, promotional presentation, the basics of entertainment law,professional management and administrative support which they will need in order to best sustain their careers in the arts.

There are limited residencies available for the 2012/13 season. Applications are due by March 31st, 2012 via email or snail mail (usps). There is no application fee.

While the residency program commits to support the artists rehearsal space and costs, It can not fully support their production/exhibition costs. Full technical support. publicity/marketing, staff and program printing costs will be offered to artists for a discounted rate of $2200.00 which can be paid in full or in monthly or quarterly installments.

Hybrid Movement Company will waive the full rental venue cost in support of the program.

If you are an arts professional or a sponsor who would like to donate funds, goods, or services to our AIR program please email us for further information on how you can help. Sponsors’names are on the company’s website, programs,posters, in electronic messages and are announced before public performances which reach hundreds of thousands of people each year through the Hybrid Movement Company’s performance seasons outdoors in Duffy Square, Times Square NYC (supported by Times Square Alliance/Broadway Cares), South Street Seaport performances NYC and Fannuel Hall performances, Boston MA(supported by the Howard Hughes Corporation) and The Hannover Theater for the Performing Arts, MA.

Guidelines and rules for applicants

For performers; The length of your proposed work should be between 7mins and 90mins and can not exceed a cast of 8 performers.

For installation art/ sculpture; your work needs to break down to fit through the front door which is 8ft h x 3.5ft w.

Your work should be uniquely your own, not a re creation of any past works.

You must adhere to the values, ethics and principles of the Hybrid Movement Company while on the premises.
