OUR MISSION

RE/generation is a physical symposium, training ground,

and corporeal think-tank created to facilitate the artistic and

career development of the professional dance student. The

program, led by Peter Brandenhoff, Alexandre Proia, and

Stuart Loungway, combines a rich history of classical ballet

syllabi with modernized training systems that serve to

cultivate the student’s artistic voice and talent/s and

expand their theatrical tool kit beyond the standard ballet

model. Through open dialogue, critical feedback, and a

serious study of the disciplines of dance and the

relationship between process and product, RE/generation

empowers the professional dance aspirant to become a

thinking, autonomous artist with the skill sets necessary for

today’s field.

ABOUT RE/generation

Birthed from a mutual love of ballet technique and

performance studies, and in-depth exploration of various

systems and modalities, RE/generation is the brainchild of

Alexandre Proia (New York City Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet),

Stuart Loungway (San Francisco Ballet, Houston Ballet), and

Peter Brandenhoff (San Francisco Ballet, Hamburg

Ballet). Together they represent a unique cross-section of

classical and contemporary ballet experience, and

collectively believe that the development of the dancer

extends beyond the classroom and standardized

technique. After witnessing the transformative process that

is possible via a contemporary and diversified approach to

ballet pedagogy, the three teachers identified a strong

need to develop and expand this method. Through our

collaborative structure, programs, and outreach,

RE/generation seeks to discover new models within the

processes of dance training, creation, and performance.

THE PROGRAM

This intensive program emphasizes each student’s artistic

voice, while remaining grounded in classical and

contemporary technique. Students are exposed to various

somatic techniques and are challenged through

composition classes and a final performance to develop an

understanding of dance as a theatrical art – as a mode of

expression.

The program is limited to 30 students. Small class sizes

enable each student to benefit from personal coaching and

foster a collaborative exchange among students and

faculty, to encourage dancers to become thinking and

empowered artists.

Tuition for the week is $450.
