ABOUT URBANITY'S DAYTIME COMPANY
Urbanity's daytime company: We are looking for 2-3 male and/or female dancers to
round out positions in our daytime company (7 dancers total). Rehearsals will be
Wednesdays 10a-2pm, Sundays 10a-3pm and either Mondays or Fridays 10a-2p.
Dancers receive a 2K stipend for the season, which spans September through May.
The positions are highly competitive. For professional contemporary dancers and
aspiring professionals, this is a great opportunity to improve technique,
artistry, and perform a diverse array of styles. We are looking for
intelligence, good vibes, interesting dancers that have "found their groove",
dancers who are willing to grow with the company. The contemporary style for
Urbanity is grounded in versatility: ballet technique, modern release,
improvisation, athleticism, stunt-work, gesture, theatricality, and "who knows
what else"? Every day is different :) Please note: For finalist candidates,
there will be a call back audition and an informal interview.

ABOUT URBANITY UNDERGROUND, EXTENDED COMPANY
We are looking for four positions for Urbanity's program designed for working
professionals and grad-students, Urbanity Underground. Formed in 2011,
Urbanity's newest ensemble is geared towards working professionals who have a
high degree of artistry, need dance to continue to be a part of their lives, but
also appreciate flexibility when committing to a rehearsal and performance
schedule. Urbanity Underground works like a collective while being considered
the heart and soul of Boston's leading contemporary dance company. Underground
members pay a monthly fee of $67 (includes unlimited monthly classes).
Opportunities for a work-study swap exist (teaching, leading community
workshops, costuming, scheduling, cleaning, etc) Dancers will have the
opportunity to take company class while also having the opportunity to take
classes during the week by Urbanity teachers and sought-after guests.
Underground dancers have the opportunity to create(!) and may apply to
choreograph to the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival (August 2013), and set
work on fellow dancers. Additionally, Underground members will have
opportunities to perform in company revues, at various New England dance
festivals and company performances. Dancers must have a high intermediate to
advanced level of contemporary dance training (ballet, jazz, modern). Learn more

ABOUT Urbanity's Apprentice Program
The Urbanity Dance apprentice program is for advanced dancers studying dance in
college, ages 18-21. Classes and rehearsals for apprentices take place Sundays,
usually from 10am-2pm, September through May. Urbanity apprentices are offered a
high degree of flexibility when selecting performance opportunities and classes,
we understand that students are already involved in the rigorous demands of
college training. This program is meant to supplement and offer a professional
experience for the resume prior to graduation. Apprentices have graduated to
dance professionally, often stating that Urbanity helped them get the job!
Apprentices are usually in high school or college and able to experience dancing
in a company, while enriching their repertory and building their resume for
college or professional work. Prior apprentices are enrolled in dance programs
at Boston Conservatory, Dean College and Boston University.
Please note: This program is meant to supplement and honor the training the
students already get from their college training. Class and rehearsals are
Sunday mornings.

ABOUT Urbanity's Junior Apprentice Program:
The Urbanity Dance Junior Apprentice Program is a highly-selective program for
high-school aged students, intermediate/advanced dancers ages 14-18. Junior
Apprentices are hand-selected by audition only to work one-on-one with Master
Teachers through private coaching, guaranteeing accelerated improvement, and
training for the next step in becoming a professional dancer. Serving as
Urbanity's Proteges, Junior Apprentices not only get to experience performing
with the company (two performances a year), but also bask in Urbanity's teaching
philosophy of inside/out artistry and dancing from a place of health, wellness
and joy. The goal is not only to train the next generation of contemporary
dancers, but also to instill lifelong skills and nurture the passion for this
art form.
Please note: This program is meant to supplement and honor the training the
students already get at their home studio. Class and rehearsals are Sunday
mornings.
