Susan Marshall & Company- Summer Workshops for dancers and choreographers

Susan Marshall & Company is pleased to announce a new season of its summer intensive, SUMAC (Systems for Understanding Movement and Choreography). For the first time, the company is offering two versions of this workshop this summer. The first is a three-week program at Skidmore College in upstate New York from June 2-June 22, 2013. The second is a six-day intensive workshop hosted by Barnard College in New York City from July 22-July 27, 2013.

June 2-22: SUMAC at Skidmore College

This workshop offers students the opportunity to learn collaborative approaches to choreography and Susan Marshall & Company repertory. Students will also study technique with guest faculty (including Gerald Casel, Kira Blazek, Stuart Singer and Adriane Fang), and observe open rehearsals and performances by the company. Housing and college credit are available.

July 22-27: SUMAC at Barnard College in NYC

This is a six-day intensive investigation of Susan Marshall & Company’s work and process, led by Susan Marshall and company members, including Kristen Hollinsworth, Luke Miller, and Darrin Wright. Participants learn creative tools and performance skills for dancers and choreographers to create and work together collaboratively. Our aim is to empower dancers and choreographers with the time, space, support, and encouragement they need to experiment with ways of creating that are new to them and which diverge from the traditional, non-collaborative model of the choreographer/dancer relationship.
