Searching for African American Female Dancer

The Movement Workshop Group, a contemporary dance theater company based out of Brooklyn, NY will be holding auditions for their upcoming work "Racine D'or." For more information on the company, go to www.movementworkshopgroup.org.

This is a collaborative work inspired by Louisiana folk tales - a modern day Southern mythology using contemporary dance and movement theater. Choreographed by Leslie Guyton and Stephanie Jingle. Music composed by Grammy-nominated Cedric Watson et Bijou Creole as well as Colin Summers. Rehearsals begin immediately for the premiere on July 11th and 12th. The production will then tour in late October through November.

CASTING:

KALINDA - female dancer/actor of African heritage

This role requires a dancer with strong technique, ability to improvise in rehearsals and contribute actively to a collaboration, and a background in acting. Like a silent movie, these roles will not require speaking but will require clear storytelling told through the body and face. Additionally, because of the collaborative process and length of rehearsal/development, we are looking for people who are easy to work with.

AUDITION TIME/LOCATION

This Wednesday, May 29th from 11am – 2pm in Manhattan.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE

Beginning immediately
Every Thursday and Sunday 10am - 3pm with additional rehearsals to be added before the premiere.

COMPENSATION

There will be a small flat fee stipend for rehearsals beginning now through July premiere to be paid after final premiere performance.

While on tour, payment will be $700/week plus per diem. Housing and travel covered.

TO SIGN UP FOR AN AUDITION
