Cousteau and the Cuticle

Cousteau and the Cuticle is surrealist operetta and dance that follows a woman dressed as the famous underwater explorer as she dives under her own skin to find the source of a family trauma. The journey takes her into the subconscious and the cosmos as she searches for the origin of pain and its antidote.  Using large sculptural costumes inspired by neoplastic aesthetics, Charlie Kaufman-esqu text and songs inspired by those of Daniel Johnston the cast will bend both space and time with their playful and haunting presence.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with dance and theatre in the visual arts context. There will be 3 days of filming March 18th-29th for the Rite of Spring performers (see below) and for all other performers a works in progress showing on March 26th, and a live performance on April 27th, May 11th and May 20th. Performers need not be available for all days.

Seeking male dancers to reperform part of Pina Bausch's Rite of Spring, Sacrificial Dance for a video and live performance.  The purpose of the performance is not to recreate Bausch's movement vocabulary but to capture the spirit of the performance.  Ideal performer for this part is over 50.  Please submit H/R.

8 performers needed to participate as ensemble members and operate sculptural costumes for a durational performance.  Some singing required.  Costumes move organically and fluidly and will represent parts of the subconscious.  Performances will take place at a gallery space April 27th, May 11th and May 20th.  Participants of all ages, sizes and ethnicity encouraged to apply.  Dancers of all sorts especially encouraged.
