WHAT IS TRANSLATE?
Curated by J CHEN PROJECT's Artistic Director Jessica Chen, "TRANSLATE (the voices of dance)" is a performance series giving choreographers an opportunity to explore their voice and perform their work. Selected artists are required to participate in several discussion sessions on the necessary tools needed to build their foundation in making and promoting their work.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Artists must possess a keen desire to develop and explore their work with their peers in the context of this series. Artists will be selected based on the quality of the work they submit. Artists are required to participate in all scheduled activities.
CURATOR
Jessica Chen is an inspirational speaker, international teacher and Artistic Director of J CHEN PROJECT, a contemporary modern dance company based in NYC. She is currently authoring her first book “If I Can Dance It” due to launch spring 2015. Her work has been featured world wide including the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai and the Amnesty International Arts Festival in Washington D.C. She has been honored at Cornell Unviersity and gave a speech at TEDxSemesteratSea.
The mission of J CHEN PROJECT is unveiling extraordinary, authentic artistry through the empowerment of movement and the expression of choreography. The goal is to foster dialogue among dancers, choreographers and audiences on ways the dance community contributes to creating solutions to issues facing humanity today.
PERFORMANCE STIPEND
There is NO application fee. If selected for this series, there is a performance stipend.
