Executive Assistant to the Executive Director

 

The Mark Morris Dance Group (MMDG), formed in 1980, develops, promotes, and sustains dance, music, and opera productions by Mark Morris, and serves as a cultural resource to engage and enrich the community. MMDG’s 20-member dance group tours domestically and internationally, with live music performed by its music ensemble since 1996. Community engagement is also integral to MMDG’s activities. At the Dance Center, throughout NYC, and on tour, MMDG provides people of all ages and abilities with access to meaningful artistic experiences – dance classes with live music, educational residencies, workshops, talks, teacher training and more. MMDG also makes its studios available to local artists and nonprofit groups at deeply reduced rates.

 The Dance Group seeks a full-time Executive Assistant who will work closely with the Executive Director in the administration of day-to day operations as well as special projects.  The Executive Assistant will gain a comprehensive understanding of and experience within an arts institution that comprises a professional touring dance company and community-based dance center. S/he is a motivated and energetic individual looking to learn and contribute to the field of arts administration. 

 

Responsibilities:

Provide all aspects of administrative support to the Executive Director including coordination of scheduling and logistics and the facilitation of relationships and communications internally within the organization and externally within the community.

Maintain Executive Director’s calendar and files; schedule and track meetings
Draft and administer correspondence
Coordinate travel and logistics for commissions and other projects associated with Artistic Director
Assist with preparation for staff and board meetings
Provide assistance with various capital and community projects associated with the dance center
Some evening/weekend hours may be required for participation in company events and local performances
Perform assigned tasks and projects and demonstrate a willingness to pitch in wherever needed
Manage info@mmdg.org account, respond to inquiries and/or disseminate emails to appropriate staff members for response
Assist with planning and catering for various MMDG community and development events

 

Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree
Minimum two years of administrative experience

Excellent writing, proof reading and editing skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with assertive and diplomatic demeanor
Superb attention to detail, exceptional organizational, planning and multi-tasking skills
Ability to work independently as well as within a team framework
Demonstrated project management experience
Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, Excel and Power Point
A background in the performing arts is preferred

Salary

$28,000 - $32,000
