Call for Teaching Artists

Cumbe: Center for African and Diaspora Dance is seeking self-motivated, experienced teaching artists
for our outreach programs in schools and community centers for grades Pre K-12. Applicants must be willing to travel to the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan neighborhoods. Teaching artists must have a culturally sensitive approach to working with diverse populations.

Teaching artists should be well versed in AT LEAST ONE of the following dance forms:
• West African
• Caribbean (i.e., Haitian, Cuban etc.)
• Afro-Brazilian
• Katherine Dunham Technique
• Hip Hop
• Stepping
• Afro-Modern
• Contemporary
• Salsa
• Creative Movement
 

Required Qualifications
• Two years minimum teaching experience, as the lead
teaching artist working with youth
• Conduct lessons with clear goals and objectives that are age and developmentally appropriate
• Create a fun, safe and engaging learning environment
• Work with diverse populations and varying levels
• Strong classroom management skills
• Strong commitment and love for working with youth
• Reliable, punctual and responsible
• Create a cohesive curriculum outline that embodies the goals of Cumbe’s mission and meets the needs of the school.

traditions and the cultures that we are creating a home for and we strive for a high standard of artistic excellence, professionalism and grace.

All Teaching Artists working in schools must be fingerprinted by the Department of Education or
Department of Health.
