Opportunity for Emerging Artists: Apply for Work Up
Work Up puts ideas on stage. Gibney Dance’s new presenting series, launching this spring, supports emerging dance and performance artists as they take creative risks and develop their artistic voice.
Emphasizing the articulation of a choreographer’s ideas in writing, the program guides artists through a two-tiered application process including a written submission of an idea and a live audition. We will accept 100 written submissions. Of these submissions, a panel will select 40 artists to take part in a live audition. Eligible works should be completed pieces between 10 and 20 minutes in length. Twelve works will be selected for presentation on four shared programs in April, each featuring three artists.
Work Up seeks work that demonstrates risk, relevance, and rigor. The program is committed to building significant context around the work of emerging artists, from the initial submission process to the final performance experience.
The selected artists will also receive a performance fee and have the opportunity to meet for classes and one-on-one consultations with Gibney Dance staff members on grant writing, marketing, and other communication strategies.
The application is stricly first-come, first-served and will be capped at 100 submissions.
Application information available online now at GibneyDance.org/WorkUp.
Submission period opens January 14.
