ABOUT THE PEOPLE MOVERS

The People Movers is a contemporary dance company that creates and performs original works by artistic director Kate Ladenheim. The company’s work explores and interprets stories, cultural oddities, and the inherently performative qualities of our world. The People Movers are known for using form, technique, and physical wittiness to support concepts with strong social, political, and cultural relevance. Ladenheim’s choreography has been praised as “stunning... an interplay of oppositions... pure, unbounded physicality meeting intricate, balletic delicacy” (the Dance Enthusiast).

The People Movers have developed a widely varied repertory and have presented works throughout the Northeast, including the REVERB Dance/APAP Festival, the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival, The CURRENT SESSIONS, Center for Performance Research, DIXON Place, Triskelion Arts Center, Symphony Space, The Boston University Dance Theater, and HERE. Ladenheim is a 2013: Breaking Glass: Emerging Female Choreographer,  a 2014-2015 Leimay Fellow at CAVE,  and a finalist in the Rider College Emerging Choreograper Competition. Ladenheim and her company have enjoyed residencies at The Ballet and Dance Center in Syracuse, New York, The Field (New York, NY), and through the White Wave Rising Choreographer Residency Program (Brooklyn, NY), and have been commissioned by the Juventas New Music Ensemble.

Recent highlights include the New York City  premiere of an evening-length contemporary ballet created in collaboration with composer Peter Van Zandt Lane at Manhattan’s HERE Arts Center, the world premiere of  Not So Shiny, created through the White Wave Rising Choreographer Residency Program, and a commission from Triskelion Arts Presents: Split Bill for  a collaborative project  with musical trio Sontag Shogun.
