Rehearsal Director
L.A. Dance Project, a Los Angeles based artist collective, seeks Rehearsal Director to assume the oversight of company Repertoire by teaching and coaching choreography for an expanding number of approximately 8 active works involving a consistent roster of 8-9 dancers. The Rehearsal Director will be part of a close-knit team of individuals passionate about creating new work, and reviving seminal collaborations from influential dance makers. Must be well versed in ballet as well as contemporary and/or modern dance. Ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic matched only by their flexibility, and sense of humor!
Reports to: Managing Director, Founding Producer, and Founding Director
Supervises: Dancers
Experience, Skills, and Requirements:
5+ years of experience performing in a professional dance company.
3+ years of experience as a Rehearsal Director or Ballet Master for a professional dance company.
Touring experience a must.
Must be able to think creatively, and problem solve on the fly.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach a daily ballet Company Class along with a regular offering of one or more Contemporary and/or Modern classes a week in place of ballet.
Identify regular guest teachers for rehearsal periods.
Work with Choreographers to learn all dancing parts in the new creation and facilitate the needs of the creative process.
Participate in team decision making in regards to casting and role assignments.
Problem solve performance challenges by making artistic decision regarding changing of choreography and/or casting to accommodate last minute emergent issues such as injury or challenging performance spaces when the Choreographer or Artistic Director is not present.
Participate in team decision making in regards to programming.
Administration and Logistics
Create weekly rehearsal schedules.
Develop and maintain a 6-month advance plan for all rehearsal periods.
Coordinate with the Company Manager on scheduling and touring issues including costume maintenance
Coordinate with the Production Manager on the needs of the dancers for all Technical Rehearsals.
Participate in team decision making in regards to engagement and re-engagement of dancers.
