SHANNON HUMMEL/CORA DANCE SEEKING MALE AND FEMALE DANCERS

SHANNON HUMMEL/CORA DANCE SEEKING MALE AND FEMALE DANCERS

Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance is seeking 4-6 female and male dancers for supporting roles in an upcoming large scale performance project. COMMON DANCES is a suite of 18 short works that are each 3-7 minutes in length. Each work celebrates simple but powerful moments of everyday beauty, connection, struggle and surprise we often overlook yet all share. COMMON DANCES will take place Saturdays, September 19 and 26 (rain dates September 20 and 27) in over 30 locations throughout Red Hook, Brooklyn. Part self-guided walking tour, part dance scavenger hunt, the full suite will take place over 4 hours using the entire neighborhood as its stage. From the apartments, hallways and courtyards of NYCHA’s public housing to the wide open spaces along the waterfront, dances will be happening on living room couches, on park benches, in church pews, at dining room and restaurant tables, and even inside of cars, challenging audiences to explore the entire Red Hook community.

Dancers should be versatile performers, have solid modern technique (experience in hip-hop a plus, but not required) and possess an openness to performing in sometimes unpredictable sites and circumstances. This project is equal parts community engagement and performance. Availability during the rehearsal times listed is a must and all rehearsals take place in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
