Afro-House is a mix of traditional dances from the African Diaspora, movement rooted in regions of the Caribbean, South America and Africa, with the contemporary styles of House and Hip-Hop. This class will inspire your body to move and explore cultures through dance.

Learn the Afro-Cuban Orisha dances, the deities of the Yoruba Pantheon. Bring a wide dancing skirt if you have one. Dive into the sweet waters of Oshun, blue waters of Yemaya and open up your chances of possibilities with Eleggua.

What does it take for Black Lives to actually Matter in the eyes of all Americans?
Join MOPDC as we look to answer this question through a dialogue of bodies in space. Explore our process for creating Socially Conscious Choreography while generating your own gestures and movement phrases inspired by your understanding, thoughts, and images that come to mind when thinking of the tumultuous environment we are living in. The workshop will allow space for participants to find the breath we all need to help us prevail towards justice.

Movement of the People Dance Company is dedicated to unearthing historic and present sociocultural issues and addressing them through the healing elements of dance. Primarily a Dance Theater company, their choreography blends dynamic Contemporary Dance with traditional world folk dances, and demonstrates a sensitive balance of pedestrian gestural phrases with grounded visceral movements that use breath and musicality at its core. The company is comprised of dancers from diverse multicultural backgrounds and international experiences. MOPDC is dedicated to connecting cultures through dance, composing socially conscious choreography, exploring the similarities and nuances of traditional world dances, and finding ways for underserved communities to empower themselves through dance.
