AUDITION NOTICE

Abby Zbikowski/Abby Z and the New Utility are looking for 2-3 dancers to be paid hourly for rehearsal and performances. Dancers must be interested exploring their body's physical and mental possibilities and impossibilities, but do not need to be working within one particular movement style or discipline to audition. Dancers/athletes with diverse training backgrounds are encouraged to come out! Experience with African and Afro-Diasporic Forms like House, Hip-Hop, or B-boy/B-girl is helpful, but not necessary.  Dancers must be open, willing, and ready to push their bodies beyond their current assumed thresholds of exhaustion, as they will be expected to work through extreme fatigue while still delivering clarity of energy and intention on movement. Must be able to rehearse on Saturdays, Sundays, and occasionally Wednesdays.  Rehearsals will take place in both NYC and Philadelphia.  Travel and lodging will always be covered.   

When: Sunday August 14, 2016 from 12pm-3pm; Please be warmed up and ready to move at noon!

Where: Peridance Capezio Center, Studio #3, 126 East 13th Street, NY, NY 10003

What to bring:

1.) Clothes you can easily move in, pants are encouraged

2.) Sneakers

3.) Knee Pads

4.) A printed out 1 page resume with contact info, recent dance/movement training, and availability listed

 

How to prepare:  Watch these 2 phrases that will be part of the audition. Learn what you can prior. It will help you catch on quicker when we go through it on the 14th.

Our next project, abandoned playground, will be presented by Abrons Arts Center in April 13, 14, &15 in 2017.  There will be several public showings prior to the premiere. 

“abandoned playground is an evening length dance event dedicated to challenging the profuse amount of both culturally constructed systems(aesthetics values) and naturally occurring systems(gravity and physical endurance) that act upon us simultaneously.”
