Women Choreographers of Color Submission Call

ModArts Dance Collective (MADC) is thrilled to announce the women choreographers of color’s call for its second annual dance festival entitled, “Collective Thread”. Collective Thread will comprise of a matinee and an evening concert on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Dixon Place. Collective Thread's purpose is to provide a voice and a platform to all women of underrepresented ethnic groups within the medium of dance.

The mission of MADC is to celebrate and provide a platform for female artists of color to share their creative voices through performance opportunities and artistic engagement through community collaboration to administer the transformative power of dance with under represented communities throughout the United States.

Interested artists should complete the application link: https://goo.gl/forms/9kn6cnwmImogtc6z1 and submit a non-refundable $25 application fee sent through Venmo (account name:@ModArts_Dance). Dance makers do not have to be a NYC resident to apply. Choreographers are asked to submit either up to a 6-minute or a 15-20 minute completed piece/work in progress for the submission committee to review. If the submitted piece is a work in progress, it is required to be completed by the concert. (Please note: Due to the Letter of Agreement with Dixon Place, pieces considered for selection cannot have props.) If selected, there will be a $50 production fee submitted through Venmo to assist with the costs of the venue and marketing items. Participating choreographers/dance companies will receive a 20-minute tech slot the day of the concert with 4 lighting cues, as well as social media exposure, complementary photos from tech, and a video link from the concert. Applications are due by Monday, December 19, 2016 11:59 EST. Artists will be notified by Tuesday, January 2, 2017.
