Get PAID to do what you LOVE!

Be the lucky ninth dancer! Urbanity Dance is seeking one more dancer to fill an open position and join our professional company for the remainder of the 2017 season. We are seeking a male dancer with a diverse movement background. We are looking for a positive, open-minded, and collaborative dancer that come from non-contemporary backgrounds. We advocate diversity on every level.

About the Company:

Urbanity Dance is currently Boston's second largest dance company. The Company’s hyper-athletic aesthetic is a true fusion, aiming to bridge the gap between concert and commercial dance. Known for its effortless curves and use of breath, Urbanity places a strong emphasis on the foundations of modern, jazz, and ballet, while also utilizing the highly detailed gesture work and hard-hitting articulation usually associated with hip-hop. Originally an all-female company, Urbanity added men to its ranks for the first time in 2014. Appreciating the attendance of live dance as a generous act in the mediated 21st century, the Company values high artistic integrity. Since its founding, Urbanity Dance has grown tremendously. The Company was voted Boston’s Best by Improper Bostonian in 2013, announced Best of Boston by Boston Magazine in 2015, recently shortlisted for Bostinno’s 50 on Fire, and named a Top Ten Critics’ Pick by The Boston Globe. Urbanity has presented at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, The Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Institute of Contemporary Art, and venues across New England, New York, Virginia, Texas and Florida.

How do I apply?

1) Email Company Manager, chance@urbanitydance.org and tell us about yourself! Please include any of the following: photos, videos, and a bio or resume if you have it.

2) Selected dancers will be asked to attend a company class. The class will serve as an audition. Dancers should also prepare a 1-2 minute solo (either choreographed or improvised). Please bring music and prepare ahead of time.

What is Urbanity's style?

The artists in the company influence the choreography, and we are currently seeking a new dancer who may offer a fresh perspective. We are looking for artists who have diverse range, can move lyrically, yet have the ability to fiercely hit notes of choreography with specificity and attack. Elements of ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, sports, and world styles are integrated. Experience with improvisation, acro, and partnering are a plus.  We're looking for wow-factor, appeal, and above all, an open-minded willingness to create.
