Part-time teacher for Music Appreciation class needed
Brighton Ballet Theater is a nationally-respected ballet school that teaches the traditions of Russian ballet, as well as modern, contemporary, jazz, folk and other dance genres to over 500 students annually in South Brooklyn and Staten Island. For 30 years, we have served a served as a community cultural oasis, bringing dance, music, and art to diverse populations, ages 2-92.
Currently, we are seeking a part-time teacher for our music appreciation classes, which are geared toward children ages 2-5. At BBT, our youngest girls and boys learn the foundations of dance through the language of music: rhythm, style, tempo and dynamics. Through fun, interactive games these children train and coordinate their audio perception and kinesthetic reaction to music so that they develop self-coordination and self-control. Each music appreciation class features both a music teacher and a dance teacher, as well as participation by parents. Successful candidates will need to sit for an interview and conduct a demo lesson for BBT staff. They should also have:
-fluency in both Russian and English
-considerable experience in early childhood education
-ability to work harmoniously with a wide range of people
-love of children
-sense of humor
-patience
-strong communication skills
-commitment to safety, punctuality, and modeling good conduct
-basic familiarity with, and appreciation of, ballet
-clean background check
-positive work references
