BuoyRR: Residency & Retreat
July 4 - 11, 2017
Deep River, Connecticut
For womyn performing artist duos
Applications due May 8

BuoyRR is an annual residency and retreat for womyn founded by Bailey Nolan and Viva Soudan, located at The Peace Barn, a fifteen-acre sanctuary in Deep River, Connecticut, just three hours North of New York City.  We define womyn as an identity beyond a gender binary including trans and female-identified people, all definitions are welcome to apply.

This eight-day intensive aims to instill in the participants the fundamentals of experimental dance, creative writing, vocal training, and energetic exchange.  Artists are invited to apply in duos to create original choreography on the land culminating in a collective public performance. Directed by Nolan and Soudan, the site-specific piece is sculpted through physical, spiritual, and cerebral workshops.  Working both as duos and collaboratively as a larger team, residents are challenged to investigate creative process and practice.  This year's theme is I AM YOUR ITCH: an examination of our current political horror, womyn as historically haunted vessels, and power through self-activation.

The program is structured on pillars of health and wellness to nurture a focused restorative routine; beginning each day with yoga, daily vegetarian meals, and ending with nightly guided meditation.  Residents camp on the land, stripped of technology, to consciously reactivate.
