POSITION TITLE: Production Apprentice
DEPARTMENT: Production

CLASSIFICATION: Regular, Full-time August 2017 – May 2018, Non-Exempt 


POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Apprentice Program at New York Live Arts (Live Arts hereinafter) serves as an opportunity for those interested in production and/or dance to gain strong hands-on technical skills in the field of production. Through immersion in the production environment, the apprentice will experience technical and administrative aspects of presenting shows and running a theater along with its support facilities, and  our resident company the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company. Schedules vary as per the needs of each production and are scheduled by the Director of Production. Hours average around 42 per week and can range anywhere from 35 – 70 hours (during peak festival times) per week. Apprentices are required to work on every production. Apprentices rotate through lighting, audio/video and deck roles from production to production, providing technical support for all organizational activities. Apprentices will have the opportunity to learn how to be a well rounded production technician  working as an electrician, light board operator, sound operator, deck audio, video operator and basic carpentry skills (soft goods, dance floor, minor construction). Additional opportunities for learning, shop visits and visits to other theatres are also made available to apprentices. This is a  professional training program, with the hope that our apprentices acquire the skills to be  professional production technicians at the end of the program. 

This is a full- time paid apprenticeship with Workers Comp and Disability Coverage. There is no housing stipend; all applicants must be able to secure housing within commuting distance to New York City.


RESPONSIBILITIES: 
- Serve as part of the load-in and load-out crew under the supervision of the LIVE ARTS  Director of Production,, Technical Director, Lighting Supervisor and Production Coordinator.

- Serve as part of the run crew for all productions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to Light Board Operator, Sound Operator, Deck Hand, Video Operator or other tasks as assigned.

- Actively engage in monthly meetings with Production Manager, Technical Director and Lighting Supervisor reviewing past productions and discussing upcoming productions.

- Learn & practice in  LIVE ARTS policies, procedures and safety regulations.

- Engage with visiting artists & companies to maintain the high standards New York Live Arts is known for in the community. 

- Promote a positive, respectful, inclusive and supportive work environment.

- Works closely with the rest of the production department ( Director of Production, Production Manager, Technical Director, Lighting Supervisor, Production Stage Manager and Company Manager) to maintain the high standards that New York Live Arts is known for throughout the community. 


QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong interest in Technical Theater, Production and/or Dance.

- Self-motivated, hard working, team player who is eager to learn. 

- Minimal experience in production preferred.
