Violetsound, the new choreographic project of Hannah Jean Hildreth, is seeking dancers of all genders, ethnicities and body types for INSITU Site Specific Dance Festival this July 8th and 9th in Queens. There will be multiple performances on two days. Dancers must have strong contemporary/modern technique and improvisational skills. Acting skills a plus. Dancers of color and male-identified dancers encouraged to apply. Rehearsals to start ASAP, 1-2 times a week depending on dancers' availability. Rehearsals will run for May and June, with performances July 8th and 9th. Rehearsals will take place in Brooklyn and Queens, with multiple site visits so that the work may come to life in its ultimate location. Modest performance stipend provided, may increase with fund raising. Violetsound is aware of the economic challenges that keep dancers from dancing, and therefore promises to pay dancers for their commitment.

Description of the work:

Terroir (working title) is an interrogation and surveying of an imaginary future//space… Terroir plays with the mundane terror of the Anthropocene. It asks who is to blame for the earths catastrophes, it asks if we are ever truly alone in nature, and suggests that wonder and pleasure exist just underneath the surface of any environment, any terroir. As a group work, terroir will explore group dynamics during catastrophic times.  It will pull from the experiences of survivors of war, migration, climate crises, and disasters from the artist(s) individual and collective (cultural) imagination. Ultimately, terroir will ask, who, or what, is my enemy? What is my place in this mess? Is there love in the time of the Anthropocene? Lastly, can there be beauty here?

If you are interested, please email violetsounddance@gmail.com with a brief description of yourself and why you're interested in this project. An "audition" would be an invitation to a rehearsal where we would ultimately audition each other. Every dance is a collaboration!

Peace,

Hannah
