Part-Time Lecturer in Dance: Introduction to Dance and Dance Technique(s)

The Dance Department at SDSU a??is a laboratory for exploration, integration, and conscious action: an
ecosystem where emerging artists practice, connect, create, and reflect with depth and permeability. In this
academic program, dance is personal, physical, social, and political. We prepare developing artists for
dynamic, self-authored, and innovative careers in dance with curriculum that fosters collaboration and
mindful leadership. Our approach to dance cultivates dynamic relationships informed by and influential to
the world around us. At the heart of this rigorous study is a love of dancing.
POSITION DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The School of Music and Dance invites applications for a 1-year, part-time lecturer position to teach at least
9 units per semester during the 2017-2018 academic year. The position is for a practitioner-researcher in
dance. The ideal candidate is a strong dance writer interested in teaching Dance Major and GE courses
including Introduction to Dance and Dance Technique(s). Additional coursework depends upon candidate’s
strengths include: Yoga and Beginning Modern Technique for Non-Majors.
SALARY:
Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience, according to University policy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MFA or PhD in Dance (or professional equivalent) with at least one of the following: active research agenda,
experience and interest in curricular development, experience facilitating interdisciplinary art-making
processes, experience facilitating collaborative dance-making processes, history implementing initiatives
connecting dance in/to community(ies). Evidence of commitment to university, public school, and
community collaborations is required. The successful candidate must possess superior administrative and
organizational skills.

audiences
a?? can engage, educate, and facilitate dialogue between dance and non-dance communities both within
and outside of academic settings
a?? can articulate the unique contribution dance brings to the educational, social, and cultural fabric of
the SDSU community

The School of Music and Dance offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in music (BA, BM, MA, MM,
Advanced Graduate Artist Diploma) and dance (BA, BFA.) The School enrolls over 325 majors and serves
thousands of general students each academic year through its general education courses, performing
ensemble opportunities, and public performances. 16 full-time, 28 part-time, and approximately 13 studio
instructors deliver comprehensive professional curricula.
