SEEKING BLACK MALE DANCERS FOR PROMO VIDEO FOR “BLACK MAN IN AMERICA” DANCE FILM

*SUBMISSIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY SATURDAY JUNE 3rd**

THE PROJECT: Black Man in America: a 90-second dance film. In a white room, six Black men sit at a long white table with six guns in front of them, facing the camera head on; the men percussively and repeatedly draw six guns against each other, then towards themselves, and finally towards the audience, as they depict the psychological and social effects of state-sponsored violence on them. The soundtrack to the film will be excerpts from “Black Man in America” by Johnny Hobbes.

THE OPPORTUNITY: This opportunity is to rehearse with the choreographer for three rehearsals and be a part of the promo video for the film, which will be used for crowdfunding, seeking sponsorship, and casting notices. Some dancers who participate in these three rehearsals will be recruited to audition for the dance film (July) when the audition is held. THIS opportunity is unpaid, however the dancers who are selected to be in the actual dance film, WILL be paid.

STYLE OF DANCE: Style is contemporary/modern/human movement.

DANCERS: Athletic, black male adult (18+) dancers & actors with training in contemporary, modern, or hip hop are invited to audition for the promo for the “Black Man in America” dance film. Actors are also welcome to audition. Dancers/actors must be open to taking risks, speaking their truths, and exploring their own and others’ experiences as Black men in America.

DATES: Three rehearsals will take place on June 4th, June 11th, and June 18th from 8pm-10pm in Lower Manhattan.

INQUIRIES: To inquire about participating, e-mail me, Justina Grayman at justina.kamiel@gmail.com. Confirm that you can attend all rehearsal dates and include a reel or excerpt of prior contemporary/modern/hip hop dance performance. I will let you know within 2 days if you will be invited to attend.
