ELIGIBILITY:           New York State Certification in appropriate content area

                                    Excellent record of attendance and punctuality

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:    

1.Knowledge and ability to organize large group instruction.

2.Demonstrate classroom management skills.

3.Ability to work with staff and administration.

4.Possess qualifications of creativity and adaptability.

5.Knowledge of the NYS Arts Performance Standards.

 

PREFERRED:                        Knowledge of the National Arts Standards.

 

DUTIES AND

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Teach a maximum of 25 periods for Grades 6-8 per week.

2.Instruct classes utilizing the Arts Standards.

3.Create several school-wide performances.

4. Ability to create a learning environment where students' emotional and social needs are met through conflict resolution, peer mediation, collaborative learning, team building activities, etc.

5.Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with colleagues, parents, students, the local community and school partners

6.All out of classroom teachers will be responsible to participate in any upper grade “club” activities scheduled for      the 2017/2018 school year.

 *Note: Staff participation in these activities is voluntary, although strongly encouraged, as they are very important to the development of the school. Where applicable, staff will be compensated at per session rates according to the terms of the UFT contract.

 

In addition to the cover letter, resume, and interview, teacher candidates must present a teaching portfolio, which may include evidence of philosophy of education, evidence of curriculum planning such as course syllabi, lesson plans, and any teaching artifacts collected throughout teaching career.

 

Artifacts may include student work, images of student work, student achievement data, and presentations, and curriculum development examples. Applicants must also provide three professional references and, if possible, a written observation from a supervisor. References might include one from a peer with whom the applicant has collaborated, and/or a faculty development or professional organization representative.

 

HOURS:                     8:20 AM - 4:00 PM Monday

8:20 AM - 3:55 PM Tuesday

8:20 AM - 2:40 PM Wednesday through Friday
