AUDITION: 9 dark skinned male performers needed for Performa Project by artist Nicholas Hlobo

For the Performa 17 Biennial, South African visual artist Nicholas Hlobo will present a performance installation that gets activated by 9 male African / African American performers, four of them sitting on 7’ high chairs.

Looking for 9 males dark-skinned, max height 5.9 ft, max weight 176 lb, 30-32 waist. Not afraid of heights, able to sit still for upwards of 3 hours.

Audition information: by invitation only. If invited, we will share with you the audition details.

If selected, performer must be available mid November:

Rehearsal dates: November 17 (4 hour rehearsal)

Performance dates: November 18 + 19 2017

Performance Times: 10am – 12pm, 2pm – 4pm, daily commitment 9am – 5pm

Compensation: Fixed fee for 2 performance days and 1 rehearsal

About Nicholas Hlobo

Hlobo (b. 1975, Cape Town) exhibits widely, including pieces at the Venice Biennial, Biennale of Sydney, Guangzhou Triennial, and solo shows at the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo, Tate Modern, and Boston ICA. He was named the Standard Bank Young Artist for Visual Art 2009, and the Rolex Visual Arts Protégé for 2010/11, working with Anish Kapoor as his mentor and holds a Bachelor of Technology from Technikon Witwatersrand.
