Create new work through Nimbus’ Choreographic Residency with guidance from Keith Thompson. This new work will be premiered at OFFLINE on May 18 and 19.

 

All Applicants will be assessed on the following criteria:

-Demonstrated history of work

-Project proposal quality

-Project feasibility

 

Choreographers of all backgrounds encouraged to apply.

Present Dance @ BAM Fisher

On Saturday, April 21, Nimbus Dance Works will present the work of 7 engaging choreographers at BAM Fisher Theater. Apply to be part of this select group and perform at the beautiful and highly respected BAM Fisher Theater this Spring!

 

Proposed works should be no longer than 15 minutes. Choreographers must provide performers.

 

$500 participation fee upon selection.

 

NimbusPRESENTS: OFFLINE Imagine, Enliven, Connect

Choreographic Residency and Curated Performance

Now entering its third year, OFFLINE is a series of curated performances presenting the work of emerging to mid-career choreographers from the New Jersey/New York area. Designed to bring new dance to Jersey City audiences and to address the limited space available for dance creation and performance in Jersey City, OFFLINE draws audiences and artists together for intimate and meaningful dance exchanges. For this cycle of OFFLINE, guest curator Keith Thompson invites ALL applying choreographers to ponder and expand the parameters of how an existing piece or new work-in-progress can engage in using imagination, enliven global perspective of dance as an art form and connect to a varied audience of dance and non-dance audience members.

2 resident choreographers and 6 choreographers for performance only will be selected to present their work at Nimbus' Studio/Theater in Downtown Jersey City on Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19, 2018. Resident choreographers will present their work in both performances, all other works will be presented in one of the two performances. Following each show, Keith Thompson will lead an artist talkback with participating choreographers.

Proposed works should be no longer than 15 minutes. Priority will be given to new works and works in progress.

Selected resident choreographers must sell 15 tickets to the performances. Choreographers selected for the performance only are required to sell 10 tickets each.

Resident choreographers receive 30 hours of studio time for rehearsals and are required to do one work-in-progress showing prior to the performance, using MacArthur Genius Award recipient Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process for feedback from the curator, Nimbus artistic staff, and invited audience.

(Note about space use for resident choreographers: studio times are primarily available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings with some additional weeknight availability.)

 

About Keith Thompson:

Keith A. Thompson is the Artistic Director of danceTactics performance group (USA), whose work has been presented at various festivals throughout the United States, Japan, Scotland, France, and Germany.  The company recently presented Undeniable Traits at Dixon Place (New York), and will present A Piece of Hamlets  Machine at Theater X this spring (Tokyo).  Keith danced internationally for the Trisha Brown Dance Company (1992-2001), and served as Trisha’s Rehearsal Assistant from 1998-2001; and since 2009 performs and rehearsal directs for Liz Lerman.  He is an Associate Professor and acting Associate Chair for Dance at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University (New Jersey), and has taught workshops and master classes around the world, from Moscow and Oslo to Seoul, Tokyo, and Kyoto.  Keith is the recipient of a 2017 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.  MFA, Bennington College.
