Dysfunctional Theatre Internship Program
Summer 2018 Dates: Saturday, May 5th - Sunday October 28th
Dysfunctional Theatre Overview:
Founded in 1997, The Dysfunctional Theatre Company is a collective dedicated to producing ensemble
works that challenge the status quo without taking themselves too seriously. The company officially
incorporated in 1998, achieved non-profit status in 1999, and has produced over 30 shows in its history,
many of them original works. Dysfunctional Theatre’s mission is to show audiences the joys of live
theater, give exposure to new playwrights, rediscover forgotten scripts from previous centuries, provide
a supportive environment for artists to grow and expand their work and to prove that a small theater
company can be self-sustaining in the competitive and crowded NY theater scene.
Governors Island Collective:
For the last three seasons, Dysfunctional Theatre has called Governors Island, House 8B in Nolan Park
our home for the summer. Called the ‘Dysfunctional Collective’, our goal is to showcase under one roof
the incredibly rich world of independent theater and art in New York City. The first floor of the house is
typically devoted to live theatrica l performances, dance works, and musical presentations; while the
upstairs rooms hold a rotating show of visual arts from artists both young and old. All of the
performances and exhibits are open and free to the public.
