Showcase your work with the Emerging Choreographer Series 2019

Now in it's sixth year, The EMERGING CHOREOGRAPHER SERIES, presented by Mare Nostrum Elements and LaGuardia Performing Arts Center-CUNY, is a one of a kind professional/career development, mentoring and performance platfrom designed to assist self-motivated and responsible artists to learn and navigate the self-produced dance comunity in NYC.

Selected participants will receive space grants, logistical support, marketing and advertising material, professional lighting and technical support, and the tools to create, develop and perform a new finished work. Participants will work directly with MNE’s artistic director Nicola Iervasi (Martha Graham Dance Ensemble), and in-house director Kevin Albert (Boston Conservatory), as well as a personal mentor to be chosen upon acceptance. Their works will premiere at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center on Feb. 25 & 26, 2019.

Emerging or aspiring choreographers of all ages are welcomed. All dance styles and fusions, including but not limited to Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, Musical Theater, Latin/Ballroom, Hip Hop/Street Dance, African and Ethnic Dance will be equally considered.

The workshop/audition is based on MNE’s signature method The Wave Within. You will not need to prepare any choreographed material or bring dancers. Watch The Wave Within Promo.

 

PROGRAM DETAILS:

> 8-week rehearsals: January 3 – Feb 23, 2019

> 2 performances at LPAC: Feb. 25 & 26, 2019

> Weekly meetings with MNE’s directors and fellow choreographers

> UP TO 50 HOURS of FREE rehearsal space

> Production element consultations with professionals in the field

> Stipend to cover basic expenses (dancers, costumes, props etc)

> 1 informal showing with panel of professionals for feedback and advice

> One-on-One mentorship with a professional of choice

> Opportunities for future commissions, festival participations and more
